Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Security Captain and, if necessary, under the direction of a licensed medical professional or designated healthcare provider, the remote site Security/Medic Technician performs a variety of security related functions in a remote camp on the North Slope of Alaska, and when necessary, administers emergency medical treatment. Primary duties at this location are security related. Incumbents in this position are required to be firearms licensed, trained and qualified. This is a rotational position on the North Slope and the anticipated start date is June 2021.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • EMT III certification or MICP (State of Alaska)
  • Prior work experience in private security, military service, law enforcement or a related field.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Possesses, or able to obtain, class B Commercial Driver License with passenger endorsement
  • Possesses, or able to obtain, State of Alaska Security Guard License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Understand and comply with all company/client safety and risk management. Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols at the job site and ensure the observance of applicable laws.
  • Perform security related duties to include protection of work sites, facility security, personnel movement coordination, alarm monitoring, and other tasks as assigned. Medical capabilities are required to provide support to the on-site medical provider as needed or directed.
  • Support the client’s Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)
  • Remove or assist in the removal of victims from the scene of an incident
  • Comprehend and utilize medical standing orders or directives
  • Comprehend and utilize DUS Post Orders and applicable guidelines
  • Verbally convey patient status report to other medical personnel
  • Utilize clear and appropriate communication skills in formal and informal settings
  • Take accurate scene photos and gather information in investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements of all participants and witnesses. Submit clear documentation
  • Reduce observations or investigation results to written form so as to clearly and accurately capture the incident observed or investigated
  • Exercise sound judgement in determining appropriate action to be taken in changing situations. Maintain composure and control in all situations.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle in a variety of settings, day and night and during varying weather conditions
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professionalism
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner
  • Must be able to meet and continue to meet any applicable state/local licensing and permit requirements for the armed Security Officer/EMT III position, required medical certification(s), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and weapons qualifications.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Willingness to perform other duties as required
  • Willingness to work at various locations as required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The employee will be required to live and work in a remote and confined workspace for extended periods of time and exposure to work assignments consisting of twelve-hour days and able to work day or night shifts as required. The majority of the work is performed in a remote setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities. There may be a lack of immediate access to critical medical services as well as urban community services. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Applicant will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and Functional Capacity Exam (also known as a fitness for duty test).
