FLSA Status: Full-time; Non-Exempt

The Nutrition, Transportation and Support (NTS) Specialist delivers program services to clients of the Older Alaskans Program. These services include meals, assisted transportation and homemaker activities. All NTS Specialists are expected to function in each of these areas although they may be given a primary assignment.

JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Create a helping relationship between Older Alaskans Program and individual clients. Act as personal representative of The Salvation Army insuring all clients are treated courteously. Report any problems to supervisor immediately.
  1. Ensure delivery of services by communicating directly with clients by phone to provide advance notification of arrival;
  2. Support grant compliance effort by using client contacts to visually assess health and function while providing services;
  3. Report negative changes in health and function to supervisor;
  4. Document reported client problems or requests for service and provide information to supervisor.
  1. Daily Meal Delivery
  1. Review meal delivery schedule to identify changes (additions/deletions). Update route schedule based on verified changes;
  2. Verify meal count, pack meal items using proper containers and ice packs to assure temperature control of 40 or less throughout meal delivery;
  3. Deliver meals to clients along route;
  4. Twice a month use thermometers in containers to verify temperature. Record temps at end of route on route sheet;
  5. Accept cash donations and deliver them to OAP office;
  6. Document each delivery (client signature) and provide daily record to OAP Statistician;
  7. Provide immediate short-term assistance to clients as needed;
  8. Report, daily, all undeliverable meals to OAP Scheduler/Operations Manager.
  1. Special Route
  1. Deliver meals, as scheduled, for congregate meal sites;
  2. Clean and sanitize meal site cambro carriers daily; through external cleaning at least twice a month;
  3. Pick-up and deliver mail/messages between OAP office, congregate sites, DHQ and other locations as assigned and/or needed;
  4. As assigned, weekly stop at food bank to pick up baked goods program activities;
  5. Weekly, clean and sanitize milk refrigerator prior to the milk delivery;
  6. Deliver meals, as assigned, for the multiple delivery routes, following duties outlined in Item 2. Daily Meal Delivery.
  1. Assisted Transportation and Homemaker Activities
  1. Review schedule to verify clients and needed services, accommodate last-minute changes as possible.
  2. Drive vehicle to specified client locations, complete scheduled services light housekeeping or transportation as planned.
  3. Accept cash donations and deliver them to OAP office;
  4. Document each provided service (client signature) and provide daily record to OAP Statistician;
  5. Provide immediate short-term assistance to clients as needed;
  6. Provide assistance to clients on entering and leaving the vehicle.
  1. Vehicle Responsibility
  1. Daily inspection and check of air, water, oil and other items necessary to maintain equipment in safe operating condition. Fuel vehicle daily and wash as needed.
  2. Regular review of vehicle maintenance schedule, inform supervisor of needed vehicle maintenance.
  3. Immediately report to supervisor all accidents involving vehicle, personal injury or property damage. Complete written report on return to project office. Keep accident reports in vehicle at all times.

Position Requirements:
  1. Have or be able to obtain and maintain basic First Aid and CPR certificates.
  2. Participate in training to be able to assess client health and function at paraprofessional level.
  3. Additional related training as it becomes available.
  4. Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
  5. Able to work out-of-doors and in extreme weather conditions.

Qualifications:
  1. High School or equivalent or at least 2 years experience working in a job related field;
  2. English language ability sufficient to understand and carry out instructions and accurately complete required documentation.
  3. Map-reading ability.
  4. Current Alaska Drivers License with clean driving record.
  5. Ability to pass background investigation.
  6. Stable work history with minimum two years work experience where client care or customer service was the focus of the work.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills.
